I'm making a smiting monk (maybe some healing skills, tossed in there) and was wondering what skills to choose, and what secondary to take.

In GW you are not going to make a "smiter monk" or a "water ele". You can make a monk, or an ele. And play whatever you can play, or whatever you have to play.

Be warned, however, that you would not be doing a lot of damage.

That depends how bad the build is. If it is bad enough, you are doing damage to your team.

support your team thru damaging anti condition and hex spells while firing the laser eye of God and buffing your physical melees.

Wait, if he wanted to support his team with anti-condition and anti-hex spells why doesn't he go with Healing or Protection?

All in all, my opinion is that if you want to deal damage, get a different profession.

My RoJ, judges insight smiting hero does pretty well with smite hex//scourge heal for FoW.

Also has a couple divine favor heals for whatever, but all in all it's not a bad hero.

please stay on topic, he asked for a smiting build, i give him one in a artistic way. since when did it matter what profession or role you are when your 80%time playing single player? wasnt this game founded on the fact that you could be any profession, any time?

ths is the type of additude that is the downfall of this game.

Take Mesmer as secondary and make a build centered around Ray of Judgment and Arcane Echo. Something similar to a typical VSF RoJ build, but more generalized.
When first starting out, take the obvious Smiting prayers skills, etc., until you can get the better skills. You will do less damage than some other character classes, until you get a full RoJ build, so it may take a bit longer to kill mobs. But what's the hurry?
